Mixing Criteria

Coefficient of Variation (CoV) ≤0.02 for stoichiometric uniformity. Dead volume <10% of pot life volume — gel before clearing is a production loss. Viscosity ratio between polyol and MDI can reach 100:1 — SX mandatory. Mixer must be purged with nitrogen before each production run.

Typical Viscosity
500–50,000 cP (centipoise) (isocyanate and polyol at dispense temperature)
Reynolds Number (Re)
Reynolds Number (Re) <500 (laminar)

Material & Special Requirements

Preferred MOC: 316SS for production lines. PP or FRP for disposable OEM cartridge systems. Avoid PTFE for MDI service (chemical compatibility). Nitrogen purge ports on housing.

Nitrogen purge ports mandatory on housing ends (moisture exclusion for isocyanate). Dead volume minimised by reducing nozzle-to-mix-head distance. Disposable PP cartridges for OEM dispensing guns. Pot life calculation determines maximum mixer element count.

Recommended Mixer
SX Series — Cross-Bar
Sulzer SMX-equivalent. ±45° corrugated bar lattice. 2^N striation growth per element. Deep laminar only (Re<500). Essential for viscosity ratios >1000:1.
