Progressive dilution of high molecular weight polyacrylamide (PAM) flocculants for paste thickeners. Polymer molecular weight preservation during dilution is critical for thickening performance.
Two-stage: Stage 1 gentle KE at controlled velocity (<0.3 m/s) for initial dilution. Stage 2 near-laminar SX for final homogenisation. 30–60 min ageing for full polymer hydration. Maximum shear rate (s⁻¹) per polymer supplier specification must not be exceeded.
Preferred MOC: UHMWPE or FRP mandatory for cationic Polyacrylamide (PAM) (fouls and degrades stainless steel). Avoid all ferrous metals for cationic polymer. UHMWPE lined injection port.
UHMWPE or FRP mandatory — cationic Polyacrylamide (PAM) adheres to and degrades stainless surfaces. Maximum shear rate (s⁻¹) limit from polymer supplier. Two-stage with ageing coil between stages for full hydration. KE velocity strictly limited.
