Incorporation of reactive gases (O₂, CO₂, Cl₂, HCl gas, SO₂) into liquid streams for absorption, reaction, or pH control. KE mixer reduces bubble diameter from mm to sub-mm range.
Gas-to-liquid volumetric ratio <0.3 (slug flow onset above this). volumetric mass-transfer coefficient (kLa) enhancement proportional to mixer elements — 8–12 elements for maximum absorption efficiency. Back pressure must maintain gas in solution. Temperature minimised to maximise gas solubility.
Preferred MOC: 316SS for O₂, CO₂, SO₂. Hastelloy C-276 for Cl₂, HCl gas, or wet chlorine. PTFE gaskets and PTFE-lined quill for all gas injection. Never use copper alloys for reactive gas service.
Back-pressure regulator downstream of mixer. Circumferential multi-port injection ring for large bore. Gas-liquid separator downstream if incomplete absorption expected. Jacket cooling option for exothermic absorption.
