Mixing Criteria

Blend Coefficient of Variation (CoV) ≤0.05 at viscosity meter. At moderate viscosity (10–100 cSt (centistokes) at blend temperature), Re may be transitional — verify with full Re calculation. Heat tracing maintains blend temperature to keep viscosity in KE operating window.

Typical Viscosity
10–1000 cSt (centistokes) (base oil and finished lubricant)
Reynolds Number (Re)
Re 500–50,000 (transitional to turbulent at blend temperature)

Material & Special Requirements

Preferred MOC: 316SS standard. Heat-traced housing for high-viscosity stocks. KE-R removable elements for cleaning between product grades.

Heat tracing (steam or electric) on mixer housing for viscous base stocks. KE-R removable elements for grade changeover. Foam risk at velocity >2 m/s in high-additive blends — limit velocity.

Recommended Mixer
VN Series — LPD Vane Mixer (Ross type)
Large bore turbulent service. LPD vane swirl mixing with lowest pressure drop. Handles slurries and two-phase flow.
